The artificial intelligence company Anthropic has secured contracts worth $80 billion in infrastructure. This move aims to ensure access to chips and data centres prior to its IPO.

The artificial intelligence company Anthropic has secured a total of $80 billion in infrastructure contracts in recent weeks, a strategic step ahead of its anticipated IPO, according to expansion.com. These contracts allow Anthropic to guarantee access to chips and data centres, crucial for its operations.

One of the latest agreements, closed this week, is with Lambda, a cloud services company backed by Nvidia, for an amount of $35 billion. This agreement includes a leasing contract with Hut 8, which will be responsible for building a new data centre in Texas, United States.

Additionally, last week, Anthropic signed a contract for $45 billion with Nscale to rent computing capacity at its data centre in West Virginia. This centre will also use Nvidia chips.

Anthropic's strategy reflects the growing need to secure computing capacity in an environment where demand exceeds supply. The company has previously faced issues managing usage spikes, leading to a greater focus on ensuring its infrastructure ahead of its upcoming initial public offering (IPO).

Anthropic is expected to go public this autumn, in a deal that could exceed $100 billion, valuing the company at up to $2 trillion according to shareholder estimates.

Furthermore, Anthropic has signed significant agreements with other major tech companies, including a $45 billion contract with SpaceX and an agreement of over $100 billion with Amazon to secure computing capacity and chips for a decade.
