Nasdaq and Kraken have signed an agreement that includes a $100 million investment from Nasdaq in Kraken's parent company. This collaboration aims to enhance the infrastructure of tokenized markets and launch Nasdaq Equity Tokens in 2027.
A new collaboration between Nasdaq and Payward, the parent company of Kraken, has been announced with a focus on tokenization. According to Expansion.com, Nasdaq Ventures will invest $100 million in Payward, which will enable progress in the infrastructure of tokenized markets.
The main objective of the agreement is to “drive the evolution of tokenized market infrastructure,” ensuring an approach that prioritizes governance, regulatory compliance, and market integrity. The companies expect to launch Nasdaq Equity Tokens (NETs) in the second quarter of 2027.
Additionally, this alliance will facilitate advancements in distribution, trading, and post-trade capabilities to encourage greater adoption of tokenized stocks. Payward will also adopt Nasdaq's market surveillance technology on its trading platforms, which encompass cryptocurrencies and other assets.
Nasdaq's president, Tal Cohen, highlighted that this collaboration contributes to a “more connected financial system,” maintaining trust and transparency in capital formation. For his part, Arjun Sethi, Co-CEO of Payward, stated that the new phase of collaboration seeks an infrastructure that does not close off, preserving shareholder rights.
