Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has introduced Muse Charm, a portable device that functions as a personal AI assistant. This announcement was made at the annual Connect event held at the company's headquarters in Silicon Valley, and according to expansion.com, the launch is scheduled for December.
Muse Charm is a small device similar to a pendant that can be carried on a keychain. It is activated by a fingerprint sensor and features a screen where Muse's avatar appears, allowing for real-time voice interaction.
Since its launch, the Muse app has become the most downloaded app on both the Apple App Store and the Android store in the United States. This app allows users to utilise bots for everyday tasks such as grocery shopping or managing finances.
The CEO of Meta highlighted that “if you’re not wearing glasses, this will be by far the fastest way to talk to your Muse and show what’s happening around you.” Additionally, Zuckerberg also announced new features for Muse, including the ability to hold real-time conversations with the interactive assistant.
Despite the challenges Meta has faced in the financial realm, with a significant drop in its stock price, the company has seen a $300 billion increase in its market capitalisation since the launch of Muse.
Meta plans to offer a free version of Muse with the expectation of generating long-term profits through transaction fees. This reflects Zuckerberg's belief that wearable devices, such as smart glasses, will be key to consumer interaction with AI.
The Muse assistant will also be available in Meta's smart glasses, which include features such as speakers and microphones, although they have faced criticism for potential privacy invasions. The company will need to convince users to share their personal data with the AI assistant to personalise the experience, despite concerns about security.
