The Onuba plant by Moeve, with an initial capacity of 300 MW and over 1 billion euros investment, begins construction in Palos de la Frontera aiming to operate by 2029 and generate over 8,000 jobs.
The construction of the renewable hydrogen plant Onuba, promoted by Moeve, began this Thursday in Palos de la Frontera with the laying of its foundation stone at the company's Energy Park. The event was attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, as reported by canalcostatv.es.
The facility starts with an initial capacity of 300 megawatts (MW) and an investment exceeding 1 billion euros. It is the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, a project that aims to reach 2 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity between the provinces of Huelva and Cádiz.
The plant, located next to the La Rábida Energy Park, is expected to be operational by 2029. Moeve estimates that it will generate over 8,000 direct and indirect jobs and boost the activity of more than 400 SMEs and freelancers in its value chain.
The production target is up to 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, aimed at industrial decarbonisation and sectors such as maritime, air, and heavy transport. The company estimates that the project will prevent the emission of up to six million tonnes of CO₂ annually.
The event was also attended by the third vice president and minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, the government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, the general secretary of the Andalusian PSOE, María Jesús Montero, and representatives of the company.
With the foundation stone now laid, the next date on the calendar is the commissioning of the plant in 2029, when Onuba will start operating and supplying green hydrogen to industry and transport.
