Spanish banking is adopting artificial intelligence in its strategies. Santander projects a business value exceeding €1 billion between 2026 and 2028 thanks to this technology.
Spanish banking entities are intensifying their investments in artificial intelligence (AI) to improve their operations and results. Santander, according to expansion.com, has set a target of exceeding €1 billion in business value between 2026 and 2028, through a combination of new revenue sources and cost reduction.
In the first quarter of this year, the bank already generated €35 million thanks to the implementation of AI and estimates that the figure could reach €200 million by the end of 2026.
The entity has more than 280 process automation agents in operation, optimising manual tasks in areas such as credit and operations. Meanwhile, BBVA has launched the AI Banker programme, which aims to facilitate meeting preparation with clients through strategic reports generated by AI, thus saving an hour of work per business visit.
Additionally, CaixaBank introduced the GenIAI system in 2023, which combines conversational AI and human oversight in digital hiring, assisting clients in obtaining pre-approved loans.
